Family Promise Host Week

May 6 - 13, 2018

Thank you for your interest in serving families in need through our partnership with Family Promise of Brevard!

 

 

 

Below is a list of areas we cover each host week:

  • Room Set-Up
    • Meet on Sunday, May 6 following the 9:30 AM worship experience in the gymnasium
    • Remove tables and chairs for designated classrooms and place in storage
    • Remove or move any item which is breakable or could be hazardous to small children
    • Set up cots in classrooms (provided by Family Promise)
    • Each bed should have one pillow, mattress pad, sheet set, blankets
    • Stock rooms with bath towels, hand towels, and wash cloths; drying rack; 1 box of Kleenex; 1 night light; 1 end table; 1 lamp (if available); and toiletries
    • Cover inside of doors wtih window covers
    • Place Family Promise "Room in Use" sign on outside of door
  • Room Clean-Up
    • Arrive at 7:30 AM on Sunday, May 13 to clean up
    • Families are responsible for packing up their things and taking them downstairs by the West LEC doors
    • Take all linens and blankets off the beds and put in a bag to be taken by those who are doing laundry. Please leave by Family Promise closet
    • Vacuum rooms and common areas used by Family Promise
    • Wipe down surfaces used by Family Promise
    • Pack any unused toiletries or bedding in the supply closet
    • Clean out the refridgerator and food cupboards. Dry food staples can remain. Refridgerated items need to be disposed of or sent with the families
  • Laundry
    • Pick up bedding outside the Family Promise closet on the 2nd floor of the LEC on Sunday, May 13 between 8:30 AM and 12:00 PM.
    • We will provide dye-free detergent and fabric softener for you to use
    • Please return to the church office or Next Steps area within one week
    • Someone from the church will put in the storage closet for our next host week
  • Evening Hosts
    • Arrive by 5:00 PM on assigned day
    • Review daily informaiton sheet and family profile sheet in the Family Promise binder and pick up facility keys
    • Dinner will be served in the Cafe.
    • Receive food from dinner preparation team at 5:30 PM
    • Assist with setting our food, plates, cups, napkins, cutlery, etc.
    • Enjoy a meal with your new friends
    • Following dinner, work with guests to clean dinner area
    • Clean up areas used and put away all dishes
    • Properly store any leftovers for lunches for the next day. If our guests would rather not have the leftovers, please dispose of them or take them home.
  • Provide Dinner
    • Contact the church prior to the host week with any questions about allergies, etc.
    • Prepare a kid-friendly nutritionally-balanced meal
    • Drop off between 5:30 - 5:45 PM (If you are hosting and providing dinner, please arrive by 5:00 PM)
    • We will update you with any changes as the information becomes available
  • Overnight Hosts
    • Arrive by 8:30 PM on your assigned day
    • Place your personal items in the Host room (The Family Room on the 1st floor of the LEC)
    • Locate the Dinenr/Evening Hosts for updates and the facility keys
    • Provide guests access to facility spaces within your ability to manage
    • Be available to allow entrance to the facility as needed for guests
    • Bed time is encourage to be no later than 9:00 PM on school nights, or 10:00 PM on weekend nights. Parents are responsible for their children at all times.
    • Make sure the building is secure before turning in. There is a phone in the Host room for guests to call if there is an emergency or they need to be let into the building because of late working hours.
  • Saturday Hosts
    • Arrive for assigned shift:
      8:30 - 11:30 AM
      11:30 AM - 2:30 PM - help with lunch options
      2:30 - 5:30 PM
    • Meet with prior host for updates and the plan for the day
    • Be accessible as needs arise
    • Be sure the facility is secure at all times unless the facility is being managed by other daytime church staff
  • Donate funds or purchase items for breakfast, lunches, and snacks
    • Shelf-stable, pre-packaged food staples - granola bars, juice boxes, bread, apples, bananas, pretzels, coffee, hot chocolate packets, etc.
    • Refrigerated food staples - milk, lunch meat, cheese slices, etc. *For these items, please contact Paula McDonald in the church office to verify need prior to your purchase.
    • Paper products - paper plates, plastic cutlery, napkins, cups
    • Drop off items by Sunday, May 6 in the church office or at the Next Steps area at worship
    • Make a monetary donation to First Church for our missions fund for Family Promise. Funds are used to support our host week.
